Juicing Machines – The Citrus Press
When most people picture a juicer, odds are they picture some form of citrus press. This style of juicing machine has been around for a long time. It can probably be considered the Patriarch of all juicers. The idea of the juice press stretches back into the biblical days and into ancient Egypt, and probably even further. The wine press has been around for millennia, so this idea of using pressure to squeeze out juice is by no means new. What we now know as a citrus press is a much more recent development. In any case, halving an orange and using a tool of some sort to press out the juice has still been around for a while.
Types Of Citrus Press Juicers
The citrus press has many forms. The simplest form may not be any more complicated than a ridged, pointed dome om the end of a wooden dowel. The one constant in almost every citrus press machine or tool is this cone shaped dome. This of course, is what actually juices the fruit. After halving the fruit, you press it onto the juicer while twisting, releasing all of it’s citrus splendor. These citrus presses may offer a bowl around the juicer to catch the juice. Others offer a pitcher and the ability to strain out the seeds. A few models step it up a notch by allowing the user to place the fruit into the juicer, and while squeezing the contraption closed, it presses the fruit. This is similar in design to a garlic press. All of these juicers are considered hand presses. They can come in a variety of materials such as glass, ceramic, plastic, metal, and wood.
The Citrus Press Juicing Machine
Over the years, this simple design has been mechanized with the addition of a few simple machines. A lever here, a pulley or gear there, and much of the force is produced by the machine itself. This style of citrus press is usually meant to sit on top of your kitchen counter. Some models actually clamp to the counter itself. The fruit is placed into the juicer and a lever is used to close the machine pressing out the juice. This style of citrus press is still a manually operated juicingĀ machine. Electric models however, use a motor to rotate the juicer as the fruit is being pressed onto the machine. This helps tear through the fruits fibers producing a higher juice yield.
What Citrus Press Is Right For You?
Almost everyone loves a refreshing glass of orange juice with breakfast in the morning. The benefits of the large amount of vitamin C provided by fresh orange juice are tremendous. Vitamin C is essential in giving our immune system the boost it needs, especially during flu season. A very large quantity of this nutrition is lost during processing bottled orange juice. The citrus press makes it much easier to have fresh squeezed juice right from your own kitchen. All we have to do is pick a machine and start juicing!
